Lot 101 - Clown and Dog Mechanical Bank Tin

Circa: 1920s
Place a coin on the clown’s outstretched hand and press the lever (dog’s tongue). The clown lowers his arm, opens his mouth, and raises his eyebrows. Release the lever and the coin circles counterclockwise and is deposited into the clown’s back pocket.

Lot 123 - Darky Fisherman Mechanical Bank Lead
Charles A. Bailey, Cobalt, CT
Circa: 1880s
Rest a coin horizontally on the front ledge of the coin slot in front of the bank. Press the lever on the fisherman’s right elbow. His arm raises the pole, and much to his surprise, a fish is on the end of the hook. The fish, in its upward motion, nudges the coin into the slot, and the fisherman’s hat lifts up at the same time. To reset, lift the lever, which causes the pole to lower back into the pond and his hat to lower to its original position.  Provenance: Margaret Hunter, Al Davidson,

Place a coin in the eagle’s beak and press the lever. The eagle leans forward as if to feed the eaglets. The eaglets rise up as if to eat, a bellows is activated to simulate the chirping eaglets, and the coin is simultaneously deposited into the nest and falls into the receptacle below.

Turn the center knob in a clockwise direction until it stops. This causes the coin slot to become operational. Rotate the dial counterclockwise, and the coin falls into the bank. The bank is opened by placing a magnet at the correct spot on the back of the bank, which causes the bottom to swing open.

Wind up the mechanism, set a coin on the desk and press the lever. The Freedman’s right arm pulls his outstretched arm to his right, causing his left hand to rake the coin into the hole in the desk. He then raises his right hand, thumbs his nose and wiggles his fingers in a humorous gesture as his head turns to the right. He then lowers his right arm back to its original position.

Press the trigger and the ball will shoot the coin and knock it into the bank. A percussion cap may be used to add amusement.
