Lot 1 - Acrobat Bank Mechanical Bank Cast Iron
The J. & E. Stevens Co., Cromwell, CT Circa: 1883 Place the figures in an upright position and the coin in the opening. Press the lever, and the gymnast, upon being released, will kick the clown, causing him to stand on his head. He will then push the coin into the receptacle. Lot 2 - Aeroplane Mechanical Bank Aluminum
Robert and Nellie Starkie, Burnley, Lancaster, England Circa: Late 1930s Use the handle to move the aeroplane up the pole and lock it into place. Push the lever on the back of the plane and place a coin in the slot. Move the handle down. The plane moves down the pole and the coin is deposited into the base of the bank. Lot 3 - Afghanistan Bank Mechanical Bank Cast Iron
Kyser & Rex, Philadelphia, PA Circa: 1885 Insert a coin in the slot at the top of the bank and push the lever. The bear (representing Russia) and the lion (representing Britain) both pivot toward the gate (Herat Gate to the City of Afghanistan) as the coin falls into the bank. Circa: 1892 The coin is placed in the cannon. The hammer is then pushed back. When the thumbpiece is pressed, the coin is fired into the tower. The arm of the artilleryman moves up and down. Circa: 1920s
Press the lever. The strong man raises his upper body pulling the small sailor’s head up by the hair, there by stretching the sailor’s neck. This process causes the coin slot to become operational. Insert a coin in the slot and release the lever.

Lot 14 - Baby Elephant Mechanical Bank Unlocks At X (Ten) O’Clock  Lead & Wood
Charles A. Bailey, Cobalt, CT
Circa: 1880
Move the dial off X (Ten) O’Clock. The elephant will rear up on his hind legs, stick out his tongue, and lift up the baby to save it from the alligators. The coin slot, which was under the baby, becomes exposed in the process. Insert a coin, and reset by lowering the elephant to his original position and locking the dial back to the X (Ten) O’Clock position. Replaced Baby Boy Figure.

Lot 15 - Bad Accident Mechanical Bank with Box  Cast Iron

Circa: 1888
Place a coin under the feet of the driver and press the lever. The boy jumps into the road, frightening the donkey. As he rears, the cart and the driver are thrown backward. Lot 17 - Bank of Education & Economy Mechanical Bank Cast Iron
Proctor-Raymond Co., Buffalo, NY
Circa: 1894
Insert a dime in the slot, turn the wheel clockwise, and the paper slip emerges with a question and a quotation. The dime falls into the window area and stacks up. When full enough, the cast iron lever begins to rise. The coins may then be removed by depressing the lever and simultaneously sliding the coin trap to the left.

Insert a coin into the box and the bowler will lean forward and release the ball, which knocks over pins and rings the bell. To make ready again, straighten the bowler, reset the pins, and place the ball into his hand. Brass & Cast Iron

Move the slide piece toward the monkey’s log-book. This causes the coin slot to open, the monkey to lower his arm and head as if logging the deposit into the bank, and a bell to ding that signifies he has received your deposit.

Lot 85 - Chinaman In Boat Mechanical Bank - Polychromed Variant Lead

Circa: 1880s
Place a penny on the Chinaman’s tray. Press the Chinaman’s queue. His left arm rises, causing the tray to flip over, deposit the coin into the bank, and serve dinner. The dinner consists of a dead rat and a note that reads, “Dinner is Ready.” Release his queue, his arm moves back down, and flips the tray over to its original position. Touch-up to front of boat.

Circa: 1870s
A coin is placed in the slot at the top of the bank. The weight of the coin causes the mechanism to record the deposit. There are two windows in the bank which show the deposit. The top one reads from 0 to 9 and the bottom reads from 00 to 99. After 9 pennies are deposited a 0 will show in the top window. The lower window then registers 10. The bank registers up to 100 pennies and then both windows reset to 0.
