Jan Foulke – December Doll Review

We have over 200 lots of dolls in the December auction, to be sold on Friday, December 11. The dolls will be sold first, at 10 a.m. beginning
with lot #1000. Howard and I will be in the gallery at 8 a.m. for the auction preview that day to show the dolls and answer any questions you might have.

This is a great sale for dealers to stock up for the new year, as there are numerous lots with multiples of German bisque girls and babies.

Jumeaux are favorites of mine, and we have lots of Jumeaux at this sale, including a Portrait Jumeau Fashion Lady (#1111), an all original Tête Jumeau Bébé (#1095), large 30” 1907 Jumeau Bébé (#1098), a DEP Jumeau (#1093), and other open and closed mouth Bébés. If you’ve
been wanting a doll by this prestigious maker, there won’t be a better opportunity to get one. In the French vein, we also have SFBJ girls
(#1089) and characters (#1092).

Lovers of large dolls can choose from a variety of over 30-inch sizes from Simon & Halbig (#1078), Bergmann (#1080), Armand Marseille (#1084, 1085), and Franz Schmidt (#1082), Kley & Hahn (#1102), and Handwerck (#1107).

This sale also features bodies, parts, and the remaining doll stock of legendary pioneer doll dealer Father William Crandall, of New York. The late Father Crandall was well known at doll shows on the East Coast as a specialist in French dolls. He travelled to France several times a year to buy dolls at the markets in Paris and throughout the French countryside. He will be missed by us “oldies.”

Celebrities are represented in doll form by Shirley Temple wearing a rare blue music dress (#1018), Margaret O’Brien (#1020) and a hard-to-find Judy Garland (#1023).

Barbie and family collectors have well over 100 dolls in 40 lots of vintage and modern Barbies to choose from. Boxed Barbies, Skippers, Midges, Alans, Rickies, Kens, and a rare Fluff. Featured are 65 original boxed outfits. (#1174, 1175, 1176, 1161, 1189, 1166).

Jan’s Picks: Just a fun note about some of my favorite lots. Collectors always ask me which ones I like the best: the wonderful frozen Charlie (#1157), the darling K & R 126 baby with flirty eyes (#1108), the papier-mache squeak toy (#1005), the two all original boxed German dolls (#1149), Schoenhut Miss Dolly (#1153),  boxed Flossie Flirt (#1021), the Sonneberg Taufling (#1081), the S & H 1159 lady (#1075), and the Alexander Jo (#1158). All of these have something a little special going for them.
