Frequently Asked Questions About Ebay

Bid or Watch on eBay Live

This icon indicates a "live" auction on eBay. The closing of the lot is determined by the auctioneer and is not set on an eBay timing devise. As a result, the listed ending times on eBay are incorrect. ***

Bid in Advance and/or Live during the auction on Ebay

Before the auction

If you are not a registered user on Ebay you must Register On Ebay.

If you are a registered user on Ebay, you may go directly to  Register on Ebay for Morphy Auctions Sale.  You will be notified via email when you have been approved to bid.

The December, 6th, 7th & 8th 2007 Morphy Aucions Catalogs for each day are listed in numerical order.
Place absentee bids on lots through eBay. When you place an absentee bid, you can be sure that the auctioneer will receive your bid - even if you are not there during the sale. The Catalogs are divided by days in the auction.

During the auction

Follow the sale on eBay Live Auctions site and place bids LIVE against other Internet bidders as well as bidders on the auction house floor.

Go to eBay Live Auctions and look for Morphy Auctions Sale in the list under Upcoming Auctions. In order to bid you must click the icon for "bid now". ( you must be registered - see above) Our auctioneer sells about 90 lots per hour.

After the auction, you pay Morphy Auctions directly for any lots that you've won.

Ebay Live Auctions are not eligible for second chance offers on eBay. Do not answer an email regarding a second chance offer from Ebay in relation to Morphy Auctions. Please forward that email directly to spoof@ebay.com and delete from your inbox.

There are many ways to bid on lots offered by Morphy Auctions. If you prefer not using eBay Live, Morphy Auctions offers phone bidding during the sale. Call (717) 335-3435 to arrange for a representative to call you during the auction for your lots of interest.

***Special Note - Ebay Live Ending Times are INCORRECT.  Because the lots are opened in consecutive order and ended by the auctioneer  (not a timer),  eBay has no way of predicting the ending time of each lot.  Ebay, therefore, lists the lots ending 12 hours after the actual sale beginning time.

Our Auction times are listed on our Preview Page. The auctioneer sells about 80 lots per hour.

Troubleshooting Tips

Live bidding uses Internet technology that ensures that your bid is received by the auction house at the time that you place it. Because of that, there is a minimum system configuration required. These requirements only apply for live bidding - you can browse auctions, search for lots, and place absentee bids with almost any computer system.

If you are unable to move past the "Loading..." screen or if you receive errors when trying to load the live bidding/viewing interface we recommend that you upgrade your version of Java. If that does not fix your problem please try clearing your eBay cookies and/or clearing your browser cache.

Java Upgrade

If you have a PC: To do this, please go to http://www.java.com/en/download/ and click on the orange "Begin Download" button.

If you have a Mac: The following fix works for Mac OS X 10.3 and Firefox 1.0.3 and higher. Please perform the following steps:

1) Upgrade to Java 1.4.1 by either:

  • Select Software Update from the dialog. Download and install Java 1.4.1 when prompted - You can also review previously installed updates in this window to see if Java 1.4.1 has already been installed,  OR
  • Download Java 1.4.1 from the Apple site at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/java.html

2) Download and install the Java Embedding Plugin from http://sourceforge.net/projects/javaplugin/

Clear your cache and eBay cookies

To delete your eBay cookies, go to the Start menu found on your taskbar. Select the "Search" or "Find" option, and "Files or Folders". Type "Cookies" in the search box and make sure that the "look in" field is selecting your hard drive, usually C:. Once the search is complete, double-click all the folders named "Cookies" and, in each folder, delete all the files that have the word "eBay" in the name.

In Internet Explorer, go to Tools->Internet Options->General and click the "Delete Files" button under the "Temporary Internet files" section. Click OK.

In Netscape Navigator, go to Edit->Preferences, click on the arrow or + next to Advanced->Cache and click the Clear Cache button on the right hand side of the page. Click OK.

In Firefox, go to Tools->Options->Privacy, and then select "Clear" next to History, Cookies, Cache. Click OK.
